In the 1940s the science era had its famous scientist and its great discoveries. In the 1940s penicillin was developed as an antibiotic, afterwards in 1941 the 1st electronically digital calculator was developed. A famous scientific quote of the 1940s was told by Linus Pauling, science is the search for truth, it is not a game in which one tries to beat his opponent, to do harsh to others”. In addition two famous scientists of the 1940s were Barbara McClintock and Norman Foster Ramsey Jr.
         A famous woman scientist of the 1940s was Barbara McClintock June 16,1902 in Hartford Connecticut. It was the 1940s that made her famous with her discovery of transposition. The reason she uses this process was to show how genes are responsible for the presence or absence of physical characteristics. Ms.Barbara was the person who led the development of the maize cytogenetics and studied the changes that the chromosomes in Maize underwent during reproduction. Afterwards in 1983 she was awarded the Nobel peace prize for work in physiology or medicine.
         In the 1940s another famous scientist was Norman Foster Ramsey Jr. he was born in August 27,1915 in Washington DC. He was of United States nationality and he descended from a white race. His specialty was energy levels of atoms. He was a physics professor at Harvard University In 1947. He was awarded the 1989 Nobel Prize in Physics for the invention of the separated oscillatory field method, which had important applications in the construction of atomic clocks. His father was Norman F. Ramsey he was a U.S army ordinance officer, Brig, general. His mother was a mathematics professor at the university of Kansas. His first wife was Elinar Stedman Jameson they got married in the 1940s they had 4 beautiful daughters and in 1983 a tragedy happened she passed away. He’s an American physicist; he got his PhD from Columbia University in 1940.
         In the 1940s a major scientific discovery was penicillin. In other words it was a major product produced before and after World War I. A Scottish scientist Sir Alexander Fleming discovered it in 1928. It didn’t become a major produce until the 1940s; it was used to treat bacteria. In addition they also used it to treat pneumonia, syphilis, and meningitis along with other diseases. Penicillin was commonly used in World War II to treat the diseases. Penicillin is well tolerated; between 1% and 10% of all people that are allergic to penicillin. In conclusion this was a major use of World War I and II, in addition it was discovered in the 1940s.
In conclusion Ms.McClintock was a famous woman scientist of the 1940s with her discovery of transposition. Scientist Foster Ramsey Jr. was famous for his discovery of the important of atomic clocks. Penicillin was famous for its contribution of the 1940s and the use of it in World War I and II. Finally the scientific era of the 1940s had its famous scientist and important discoveries this is what made this era important.
